During my undergraduate program at Indiana University, I came up with the idea of a gallery mascot. He came in the form of a cat with a big afro, chocolate fur, and a sassy attitude. I named him "Bassclarineko" from the combination of two words; bass clarinet, and the Japanese term for cat, "neko".

I would consider "Bass" to Walt Disney's "Mickey Mouse" because I have always been fascinated with the use of anthropomorphic characters in animation and in literature. It is because of this fascination that I declared Bass as the icon of my artwork. My mission is to integrate Afrocentricism into everything that I make along with my long-term interests.
